Donald Trump’s propaganda machine has stolen America. Today’s political situation is simply the result of Trump’s long career as a public and shameless con artist. Had there been no tabloid press or the Apprentice on NBC, let alone 15 seasons of it, there would be no President Trump. Scripted, the show created the illusion that he was decisive and had brains, which of course he doesn’t. His people aren’t interested in The Constitution or the Federalist Papers, they cared more about the fate of Gary Busey, Omarosa, and Stephen Baldwin.
If the DNC aims to turn the ship of state around it is past time to seize the narrative the same way, through a solid well-designed media campaign. It is no longer feasible to expect the public to understand issues and candidates. People are too busy or not interested. In today’s political climate sound bites have sound bites.
Hire a professional newscaster or use individuals from Congress to provide daily updates. CSPAN is far too slow and dry and this is critical. Do better! Take charge of the airways and tell the story of our party through a popular lens. If you recall, before he got stupid, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo effectively provided a daily briefing on the status of Covid in the state. Informative and calm, Cuomo reassured New Yorkers that as head of state he indeed commanded the helm. This approach is do-able.
Ken Martin, you are the go-to guy for the Dems now, so take a page from Trump’s methods and catch up. Have leading Democrats give press conferences, every day. Just report what has happened to America under Donald Trump. The country can’t count on frightened editors, journalists, or their staff to compromise the veracity of real information reaching the public. Jamie Raskin, Cory Booker, or AOC could take to the podium and tell American people what is going on. Political moderates just might listen.
In addition to daily briefings, the Dems need to set the record straight on who we are as a party. Trump literally campaigned on how terrible America is, and liberal is something to fear and hate. He doesn’t get to tell us who we are and what we believe. Ken, you have the responsibility to step up and educate the public on liberalism and that America is still that city on the hill.
You use donated funds on the front end before and during elections. Do this now! I am game to see my donation at work online and television. The effort may make races around the country less expensive.
Another strategy would include ads that would highlight the accomplishments of past Democratic Administrations. Imagine Morgan Freeman or Meryl Streep telling us the 30 second story of the FDR and the New Deal. Bruce Greenwood could enlighten viewers about JFK and the Peace Corps. Go hard in the electronic mediums Americans watch, especially screens. Most of us embrace the world through our phones.
You are always emailing us for donations, and I have complied. But with a well designed counter-move using Trump’s own tools to hit airways, social media and print media, I could get on board. Yes, it’s a lot of money, and yes it’s an off year, but we have a country to rehabilitate. Trump is lengths ahead using this strategy and time is of the essence.
Though they can’t exactly say why, MAGA haters want to burn the whole government down. Hating the United States underpins Trumpism. And Trump’s version of America is threatening the foundation of the Republic.
Run a huge ad campaign. Fill that hole with factual information, with the truth of America and the good accomplished by Democratic administrations.
We Democrats aren’t perfect but the past proves Democratic leadership has at least tried to leave America in better shape than they found it.
